Had similar feelings 3 years ago and launched an Instagram account to appropriate the appropriator. Is it working? I don't know. But when you see change coming that gives you a funny sinking feeling, I hope you find a way to do something about it. ✊️✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #welovebuhi #proud #exhausted #fighton
Thanks everyone for coming. You were beautiful tonight. #lwbuhi2017 #nightmarket #blockparty #thebuhiwalk #livingwallsatl #welovebuhi
1. My name is Seam Park, and my Dad is a current business owner on Buford Highway. I've been a frequent visitor to Buford Highway for nearly 30 years.
2. My intent in supporting this project is to celebrate the diversity, struggles, and achievements of the residents and business owners (past and current), and the potential that Buford Highway presents going forward.
3. My participation in this project consisted of organizing a survey of Buford Highway business owners to provide our artists a fuller understanding of Buford Highway through their perspectives and experiences. I also assisted in organizing, and participating in, interviews between artists and certain business owners.
4. This project will visually illuminate and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Buford Highway. There are stories and experiences regarding Buford Highway that cannot be shared exclusively through restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and its cornucopia of shopping center signs. This project will help those with and without close connections to Buford Highway experience it in a meaningful way.

This project is about people. This project is about who we are. Thank you, Sanithna. #Repost @sanithna
The Buford Highway Corridor is a special part of Atlanta. Along its path, a multitude of ethnicities, from Asia to South America and back 'round again, have grown amazing communities, full of strength and vitality.
I've spent this past week painting for @LivingWalls and @WeLoveBuHi. My wall is among a cluster of apartment complexes, away from the restaurants and stores that Buford Highway is generally known for, and faces the busy thoroughfare.
Right by the wall is a bus stop. To the north is a grocery store. To the east and the west are apartments. Mothers with children, men with groceries, kids returning from school, they all walk up and down a well-trodden dirt path every day.
For me, it feels like home. It reminds me of Old Dixie Highway, of Carriage House Apartments, and of Forest Park. I already know how to Frogger across those busy lanes. I already know what candy to get from the gas station. I already know those smiles, stretched wide across the faces of my neighbors.
I already know the beauty of this area and I hope you do, too.
Our new guide to Buford Highway, a collab with @whiskeyfoxxtrot, is out next month! Copies only available to our annual members. Join now at the link in profile!! Thx to the Community Foundation for supporting this project! #welovebuhi #weloveatl

There is something beautiful and right and good about Yehimi Cambron, a fierce activist, artist, teacher, advocate, #DACAmented, painting her first mural on Havana Sandwich Shop. Her mother, after all, worked here, in what might be Buford Highway's first "international" restaurant, now 41 years strong. (Her father worked in Yen Jing, a Chinese-Korean restaurant, up the street!) Upon graduating from nearby Cross Keys High School and Agnes Scott College and completing a stint with Teach For America, Yehimi decided to return to Cross Keys to teach art. The impact on her students of seeing their teacher, one of their own, who chose to come back to this place, her home, will be unfathomably powerful. #heretostay #livingwallsatl #bufordhighway #weloveatl #welovebuhi #repost @layqanunayawar
full production is on for #lwbuhi2017 as murals, billboards and bus stop signs go up all along the busy immigrant corridor - @ajlichk and myself continue to gather reactions, interview artists, community members and staff for our case study of the project - @ycambron is seen here working along her assistants earlier today✊🏾🔥

CAUTION: if you come to an intersection where the lights are out, treat it as a four way stop. There are several of these on Buford Highway right now. I totally understand the need to get your pho fix, especially on a day like today, but be careful out there, everyone! #bufordhighway #nocaliforniaroll #traffic #caution #lightsout #fourwaystop #departmentoftransportation #welovebuhi
I was in Manhattan that unforgettably clear blue September morning two airplanes hijacked by terrorists flew into the World Trade Center. I had just moved to New York City to attend Columbia Law, a world and an ethos away from home, family, and a short stint at a post-college Christian school in California.
In the weeks and months, even years, that followed 9/11, we were all New Yorkers, even the ones, like me, who had just arrived. We had all lost someone, or knew someone who had, and we had all lost something, and whether it could accurately be called innocence, naïveté, or ignorance I don't know.
And yet we'd all gained something too. A sense of togetherness, an unspoken connection that led strangers to smile at one another, lend a hand, share a hug. Sixteen years ago, we wore our conviction of having been evilly wronged, of being in the right, lightly enough. Of course, even then, some of us gifted, or cursed, with the power of foresight, or a more finely attuned appreciation of history, recognized the constant, barely concealed, sickness that has always threatened our fragile Union.
Our greatest enemies have never been external but rather our own indifference and fear.
Never forget to choose connection.
Never forget to choose love. #Repost @livingwallsatl
The decision to end DACA will endanger up to 800,000 youth across the nation. #lwbuhi2017 community partner, Cross Keys High School, and all of Buford Highway, is a part of the 800,000. #lwbuhi2017 artist @artwithcambron at 15, was not eligible to receive an art award because she was unknowingly a Dreamer. This is a common story amongst Dreamers, and we need now, more than ever, to stand for those who so often cannot stand for themselves. The BuHi Walk can and will demonstrate the power of knitting this diverse and resilient community together through public art. Stand with Buford Highway next weekend, September 14th-17th, at #lwbuhi2017 ✨ #morethanmurals #morethanfood 📷 | @kristin.ferro

Buford Highway transcends boundaries, but never prouder to be a Brookhaven resident than right now. Thank you Mayor Ernst for welcoming The BuHi Walk to our city. Thanks also to City staff, especially Community Development Director Patrice Ruffin, for helping us around the clock to make this public art project a reality. Thank you to all the high school students, local nonprofits serving the immigrant population of metro Atlanta, and dozens of Buford Highway entrepreneurs we've met who have shared your stories and support. And thank you to Brookhaven's property owners for sharing your walls with us. We are forever grateful. #Repost @layqanunayawar
local artist @sanithna working on his mural at #Crowncarwash for @livingwallsatl x @welovebuhi #LWBuhi2017 after having spent time interviewing different business owners and community leaders around the #BUHI area in order to inform his work. I sat in for one of these interviews and the artist noted the very similar migrant narratives and values shared by the entrepreneurs. Qualities like hard work, resilience, flexibility and ingenuity have created a vibrant business center and economic engine for the community.
Stocking up for Irma? Go see this guy at Holiday Wine and Spirits! The scion of a family owned liquor store that's been on Buford Highway since 1972, Grady Luckey Jr. is the area's unofficial demographer and storyteller and HAS SEEN IT ALL. Trust me, he knows more about this place and its people (since when it was a working class neighborhood of GM workers) than you could ever hope or want to know. Thanks Grady for sponsoring the Living Walls and We Love BuHi Meet and Greet next week! #buylocal #shoplocal #familyowned #holiday #wineandspirits #bufordhighway #welovebuhi #livingwallsatl #lwbuhi2017
