THE BUHI WALK
The BuHi Walk is an ambitious proposal to create an alternative path using community-based art installations that promotes walkability and connectivity through the Buford Highway corridor. It is one of the major ideas from the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) study for Buford Highway (the “Buford Highway Master Plan”), sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Cities of Chamblee and Doraville. The City of Brookhaven has indicated its intention to adopt recommendations from the Master Plan for its own LCI for Buford Highway.
LIVING WALLS x BUFORD HIGHWAY 2017
In 2017, We Love BuHi partnered with Atlanta-based arts nonprofit Living Walls to launch The BuHi Walk. Ten artists of color from Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York spent several weeks embedded with local community organizations during the months of July and August. Production of murals and other art installations took place over ten days in September, with the project culminating in four days of public programming.
